Food Safety Traceability System

2010-06-08

A set of transparent and traceable system inside the food industry will be able to stimulate the self-discipline of the entire industry and upgrade product quality.

When you enjoy a delicious fried chicken with great relish, have you ever thought about learning about what the chicken has experienced in its life? If you are having dinner in “Sisters’ Kitchen” of DaChan Food (Asia) Limited (DaChan Food), your wish will come true. “Sisters’ Kitchen” is a chicken meat brand and a chain store introduced by DaChan Food in 2009. On every package of product sold under the brand of “Sisters’ Kitchen”, there is a 10-digit reassurance code, i.e., 5141047323 and 5141047323 (the two codes are only for test purpose).

Reportedly, after each lot of chicks is slaughtered and processed, to type the name of contract farmer, contract number and contract lot into the system, to select the meat quality item from the form and to input production date, the system will automatically generate the reassurance code for the lot of chicks.

Consumers can send the reassurance code via mobile phones or visit the website of “Sisters’ Kitchen” and input the reassurance code to trace the source of the chicken meat, and will obtain  thorough information about the breeding farm, breeder, time of brooding and market availability; the production information about the lot of feeds; the information about the electric slaughtering, the lot of fresh chicken meat products and quality inspection and the information about the deep processing of food. This is the “food safety traceability system” launched by DaChan Food.

Mr. Mark Han Jia-Hwan, the Chairman of the Board of DaChan Food, introduces that DaChan Food has finally realized the control of the entire chicken meat industrial chain from farm to table through technical innovation in the basic feeding and circulation links and collection of information about different links of the chicken meat industrial chain with the usage of technical approaches.

The frequently-occurred food safety accidents have aroused more and more doubts about the food supply chain and food companies. While gaining consumers’ trust and recognition, DaChan Food’s safety traceability system also represents a typical application of the Internet in food industry. It is not hard to imagine how much investment will be made in the creation of a digitalized chicken industrial chain. The key point is to set up a manageable, controllable and traceable information system.

It is learned that some IT suppliers can offer all-round solutions to food safety traceability system. We hope that there will be a set of transparent and traceable system inside the food industry so as to stimulate the self-discipline of the entire industry and upgrade product quality.
